Gentleman Caller

"I hear Blackie. Open the door. What's he doing here?

Is he bringing me a Valentine tuna?"

I hope I have better pictures this time for you.

It was 7 AM when Precious knew we had company.

I really should learn to just keep my finger on the
camera button and just take a 100 shots then sort them
out.  The reason is because Blackie was in a very
aggressive mood.  He lunged at the door 4 times,
hitting it full force with his mouth open in a yowl.
The fourth time, he landed back on his haunches and still
had his mouth open, I think he was seeing stars. I quickly
closed the door, as I was afraid he would break a tooth,
get a bloody nose or worse.  It looked like he was trying
to pop his jaw back into place!

In all this Precious just sat and stared. She never once
raised a paw or jumped.

"He used to be nice to me, Lynn. Why is he such a
grouch these days? And now lookie, he's eating my
wacky weed again. That isn't romantic."

The below picture is the most recent with a foot of very frozen snow
on the ground. They are searching for apple peal I put out every
evening in an area on the grass that was shoveled a bit so
they can also eat grass.

"I'd rather look at these quiet deer than that grumpy Blackie."

This is part of the herd of 17 we have regularly in our back yard.
The does, fawns and the 1 1/2 year olds. The bucks are now all
out of site as the girls no longer of an interest to them.  We saw 6
mature, distinctly different bucks this Fall.

    1. Over the years we have eaten plenty of venison. Awesome squirrel rabbit and pheasant. All quite tasty.

  2. Blackie must want to come in and live with Precious. Could he be a little jealous? The deer are beautiful. That foot of frozen snow looks COLD! and here I am complaining about the rain.

  3. Gosh, Blackie wasn't very gentlemanly at all. Is he neutered, do you know?

Anyway, Precious, you have really fantastic kitty TV out there (the deer). Amazing! We live in an urban area and you do see deer once in a while, but of course not like that. Sadly, wildlife in cities often ends up as road kill. :-(

Well, at least your visitors seem safe and definitely enjoying the apple peels!

BTW, the biped grew up in the country, many decades ago, and she ate a lot of moose meat, but doesn't recall eating any venison.

  4. Blackie surprises me with that kind of reaction to Precious. Katie did that which Blackie did, from the inside of the house to whomever was out there... for several years when she first came home here, She could not stand ANY animal ANYwhere near this house and would spit, scream, lunge and hot the doors and windows. Vet suggested for us, that I cover the windows with window contact paper (cling stuff) so she couldn't see out and I had to do that for two YEARS!

  5. Oh Precious, that was pouring rain out there in my picture and the green was noxious ivy growing up several oaks.

  7. Poor Precious! Her gentleman caller is NOT a gentleman! With Kozmo and Jo Jo spending so much time with me in Vancouver over before I moved back a year and a half ago, when I came back we had quite a lot of hissing, yeowlling etc through the sliding door (and in the yard! It took 3 months to sort all the territory disputes out. I wonder how many fawns you will see in the spring! Have an awesome day!

  8. Well, Precious, it sure sounds like Blackie the Headbanger wanted to get in something fierce! That lot of critters beats what we've had around here by far. On the camera thing- that's what dad does. He takes a gazillion shots of me, then weeds through to find the best of them for our posts. Happy weekend!

  9. Gosh Lynn - Blackie does sound aggressive. I'm pleased that Precious remained calm during this. That's a great picture of the deer - I must show my hubby that photo. How special.

  10. What's with Blackie? He seems very aggressive. It's a good thing he's on one side of the door and Precious on the other - and that the door is closed. The deer are more calming...

  11. I wonder if Precious had other callers and Blackie caught their scent near the door: an intact tom or even some other species could have set him off. Has he been like that before?

  12. Love seeing all the deer. WE live in northern Mn. where there is usually lots of deer but since this bitter cold snap I think they are hunkered down in a warm spot.

  13. You have as many deer as my son in Charlotte NC has. Developer have totally ruined the animals's habitats birds included! and the poor things have to come into the city trying to find food. Bruce has about 20 in his back yard every day and raptor birds galore.

  14. Blackie looks cute but he is in a very aggressive mood.
The stag deer was standing on the frozen snow, looking calm and graceful. Really happy to see what it is.
The view is cool but beautiful.
Great way to pick up objects.
    Great shot.
    Have a nice week
    Regards

  15. It seems that Blackie wants to seek attention from you because he loves you.

The deer looked beautiful and was big despite the cold in winter.

    Have a good day.
    Greetings from Indonesia.
