A Winter long guest.

"We hada over winter guest.  Lynn would not let it in the house. But she 'splained to me this butterfly had to stay in it's shell all winter and outside so it would not hatch in the house."

"She found a teenie tiny Black Swallowtail caterpillar on a
Queen Anne's lace in the garden in late Aug.  She had to buy it
organic parsley!  Me,  I just git bagged crunchies!"

"We kept it in a plastic bucket with a net cloth fur a lid.  To
keep the mice and birdies furom eating it."

"We were so happy to see it finally wake up.  It knew we had
a terrible winter and awful non-Spring Spring so it kept
in it's shell fur a very long time."

It hatched on April 21.  At least 6 months of waiting.

"As usual,  I take back seat to other critters."

Precious, I really don't think so.  After all you got 3 meals
a day with treats all winter long.  While poor butterfly
could only dream of Spring and flowers and flying.
And after it hatched out we have had morning after
morning of freezing weather and cold rain. Hopefully
the poor butterfly found food and dry place.

"Well, if I don't take the backseat to evfurry one else, how come
Rocky is eatin' and I'm just watchin'?
It was Sunday when the birds had hard water and I would not
go out on my pink rug.  I watched him wolf down bird seed."

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and a comment.
It is much appreciated.

Gosh you do so well with all the butterflies that you "rescue" Lynn & Yes Precious I am sure you are a great help also. How wonderful & what a long time you had to wait. Goodness me Precious - only treats for you & NoT organic parsley - how ever will we cope ๐Ÿ˜‰! Life is tough sometimes.
I hope your weather has improved & you are getting more spring days than non spring days. We have had a week of lovely mild autumn temps but rain & winds are here now & I made all 3 furry ones come inside at 4 pm tonight - much to Fat Blackies utter disgust. Have a great weekend x0x0x

Precious, you have a very kind human, and the butterfly is beautiful. You have a nice, warm, comfortable home. I'm glad you couldn't eat the butterfly - you wouldn't have found it very tasty.

Charlee: "Wow, that's a long time to wait for your very own butterfly to hatch, and then it left right away? I hope it comes back to flutter around outside so you can at least stare at it for a while."
Lulu: "And hey, watch out, you have a bandit casing the joint!"

Precious, you (and I as well) are the luckiest kitties in each of our towns. Our families love us soooo much! I am always so impressed (Mom sure is!) at how knowledgable your Mom is about butterflies. How beautiful this one was..well worth waiting for it to come out and say "HI!!". Hey. My mom need to round up some catnip to plant!

I can't imagine even an omnivore like a raccoon can get much from birdseed. But it was very kind of you to give that butterfly a chance of a lively spring. And Precious, I suspect you have the best life of all the critters you see - no question!

Congratulations on hatching that Swallowtail. Such a pretty species, even if they do eat parsley and carrots sometimes...

Sometimes we dont know how lucky we are until we consider others short lives and the travails they face. We hope that dear butterfly had a good spring and survived these strange and cold days and colder nights. We also hope you got some extra treats too.
Have a great, warm and comfy week :)

What a wonderful thing your Peep Did for that Catipiller/Butterfly! It is Purrfect! We have our fingers crossed that it survived and did not end up as a Burd Snack! Our Mom has been feeding the crows. I, Jo Jo love watching them playing with the peanuts! Kozmo ignores them and Marvelous is more interested in the Mole that has taken up residence in Mr D's Garden. We had a HOT week, but today, the furnace came on! It is chilly and us cats are hanging out in the house. Mom and me are working on the Maltese Cat Day badge...look for it soon! Keep being AWESOME!
