Angel Seney's International Trip in 1999

"Lynn,  Seney must have had one heck of a trip. Please do not

try to take me on one!"

In the 1980's I had been to Seney (see-knee) a few times.
It is in the upper peninsula of Michigan.  And I had always
mispronounced it  "say-knee".  So that is how I pronounced
Seney's name when she came to be with me in 1993.

Until 1999, Seney had always stayed home on our vacation times.
We had a reliable pet sitter those first years. But in 1999 that changed and
from then until 2009 Seney traveled with us in a camper van.  Sometimes
just for long weekends, sometimes for a week at a time.

In 1999 her first trip was in the Spring and we were gone just a short
week.  But in late June, we were lucky enough to have 6 weeks to
travel.  And we started out going north to Canada. But getting there
took us right by her mispronounced namesake.

Seney traveled fairly well.  She always got car sick the
first hour or so of the ride,  poor girl always drooling.
But once under way, she quickly enjoyed looking out the windows.

She had a few of her very own hidey-holes when she needed
a nap or rest her eyes.

We entered Canada at Portal, Manitoba. I had called a
lovely helpful woman in Saskatchewan, Canada for a guide
to sites to see from Manitoba to British Columbia.
At least for me, this long distance call for info in paper
packet form was the only way I could find out road maps
and sites.
We had slight trouble with the climate control fan while
we were going through Swift Current, Saskatchewan.  The
auto dealer there was kind enough to call ahead to Medicine Hat,
Alberta to arrange for a part to be available the next day.
There Seney had to stay in her travel box for an hour or more
while we were in the waiting room.  But everyone working there and
other customers seemed to enjoy seeing just a peek of her.
Nice that she was not vocal, though.

We had a very memorable trip.  But when we
carried Seney's travel box into the kitchen at home,
after being gone so very long, and her totally confined to
the van, she was bewildered.  It took her more than a
few minutes to stand there and just look around in complete
shock her "home was still here" after all this time.

I have never tried to travel with Precious. The time to
have started that was as soon as she came to live with us and
was only 14 or 15 months old.  Not going to teach an old cat
new tricks.  I just stay home with her and am grateful for her
company.

"That's as it should be, Lynn.  You are a lucky woman
to have me stay home with you, instead of me traveling
all over the world."

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and a comment.
It is much appreciated.

  2. Dearest Lynn,
Angel Seney was a very special kitty girl for traveling that easy with you both!
I would be scared to death that they would escape...
Funny how she reacted when arriving back home—would love to know what they're thinking!
    Hugs,

  3. How wonderful that your Angel Seney traveled so well (after the initial woes, of course). I did pretty well coming up here to eastern PA with mom and dad, but I wouldn't mind making a permanent return trip to Asheville. Have a spectacular weekend, Precious and Lynn.

  4. Seney was gorgeous, she reminds me of my angel Chumley.

What an adventure she had! I always thought it would be fun to travel with one's fur baby, and your camper van would have been the ideal way to do it.

Precious, I know that angel Derry would agree with you, home is best!

  5. P. S. I always thought it was pronounced sen--ee. Lol. So it's good to know the correct way.

  6. Pussy~cats don't usually like to travel...
Back in 1973, l came back to this country, just
married, within a couple of months we had three
pussy~cats, my in~laws lived up in the midlands,
so the first trip was by train, no car then, then by car,
we had to take the pussy~cats with us, one in each
of two cat baskets, and one around my neck, she'd
stay there for miles and miles...kept my neck warm
    anyway...All a bit of fun..HeHe! :O)

    Precious..Your are are really Precious...Bless!x

  7. Such a pretty kitty and a pretty good traveler too. There are a few here that might do okay with an adventure trip.

  9. Seney I don't know who deserves the award for da BEST traveler...da humans or Da Seney. Thus I will vote for you because you since I know cats do not like their routine changed and especially if it involves moving vehicles. I did truly enjoy the post.
Precious my brother in law moved back to NC from Syracuse with his two kitties in the back seat singing the song of their people in high soprano for 16 hours. My BIL said he tuned his radio to a classica music station but their Song hit higer notes.

  10. Charlee: "We Hipsters are not much for traveling, but if we had to do it, doing it from a rolling house would be the way to go."
Oona: "Oona will travel! She will go anywhere and do anything! SHE WANTS TO GO RIGHT NOW!!!"
Charlee: "Sounds good to me. I'll call you an Uber."

  11. Seen, I enjoyed getting to know you. And my pronunciation of your name would be awful if you hadn't told us how to say it. Love family news of vacations.

  12. Gosh Seney was very beautiful Lynn. Yes dear Precious - we all think you are very beautiful too! That is wonderful that you got to travel with her - & some long distances too. I agree - you need to start them really young with things like this.
The Mr always used to say to me to take Pippi & Blackie with me when I went down to my Mums but they were too old for the long journey. He was only kidding of course! They are very much creatures of habit aren't they.
Wishing you both a great weekend - its cold here this morning - the furry ones want the heater but I think we are in for a gorgeous autumnal day. x0x

  16. Queen Nellie Bellie (and Hissy Old Licorice) were the travellers in our family. Both of them went fishing and camping and on vacations, I, Marv have not been in a car since we Moved to Midway in November 2019 and I LIKE it that way! Seney was a terrific cat. Thanks for stopping by and reading Nellie's post. Jo Jo wants to say HI! to Precious too! And I wanted to lets you know that we do stop by and read our furrends blogs, we just have not been commenting. Keep being awesome Precious and Mom.

  17. Wow, Seney was quite the travelled kitty cat! She sure was a beauty with a purrsonality to match. It sounds like you have the best cat in Precious for this time in your life, too. It's always rewarding to look back on those who came before.

  19. Seney was a lucky girl! I chuckled over the disorientation she suffered when she came back into the house - all that travel, just to come back to the same place! Silly humans. And Precious is probably right: home is the best place for her; not the travelling type.

  20. What a beautiful kitty Seney was! Precious, you are beautiful too - and you are quite right. Best to stay home with Meowmy and not go shlepping around all over the place!

  21. It looks like you all had a wonderful exploring life on the road. But staying at home is good, too. Here's hoping that you and Precious have a wonderful and magical adventure this week, and maybe you'll get to do a road trip, too. Never say never is saying we live by.

  22. Oh my goodness what wonderful memories of traveling with Seney. Cats know how to live in the moment and coming back home is just a new adventure until they find their smells again. It's always an anxiety thing for me whenever I travel away from the Ts. We used to have someone stay with them but not since we have moved south. They get good care but no one realizes how close we are to them and how much time we spend with them. We travel much less now too.
